MUSHROOMS

Using the low tech method of growing I am limited to my strains and always trying to grow according to change in season.

My keen interest in mycology (which if you had to ask me where it started, I’d have to thank my mother for purchasing me multiple tie-dyed hippie tops with a naughty pixie proudly jumping onto a toadstool.), has led me to always walk with wondering eyes scanning the floor beds and tree stumps for wonderful edibles.  I decided to attempt growing my own.  I relentlessly searched the internet seeking knowledge, how to dos, more info as much as I could find.  I devoured any information and literature with as much gusto as a child opening a Christmas present. (This still hasn’t changed)

After lots of cross referencing, stumble blocks, bad advice, good advice, contradictory advice, and hundreds of hours spend watching videos and tutorials, I stumbled luckily onto the genius that is Paul Stamets.  He made me realise that mushrooms/fungi are not just a delicious delicacy but a living organism that if this kingdom did not exist nor would I.  This changed the way I did my research and what information I was looking for.  He completely changed my approach to cultivation. I no longer looked at mushrooms as just an edible one-time crop but as a living breathing organism that needs feeding (think of the Kefir grains or sourdough starter sat in your kitchen).

Maybe you find a new curiosity of the fungi kingdom and look at it with such admiration that they too expand your mind as they have mine.  I will be running mushroom cultivation courses, if you are interested in learning more, just keep an eye on our website under workshops.

Foraging is a wonderful way of connecting with the world around you.  Always only take what you need, be respectful and always show gratitude.
